Dayana Mendoza Named Miss Universe 2008

Posted: 15 Jul 2008 01:00 PM CDT

Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza has been named the 2008 Miss Universe winner. Dayana is a stunning 22 year old beauty who was favored going into the competition. Venezuela has already produced four previous Miss Universe and five Miss World winners. She beat out other finalists from Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Russia and Mexico. Her crown clinching even was the question an answer where she was given the task of explaining the difference between men and women. How did Miss USA Crystle Stewart do you ask? She fell down during the evening gown portion to make it back to back years for Miss USA to fall own.

“Actors Acting” Project by Vanity Fair

Posted: 15 Jul 2008 12:55 PM CDT

Photographer Howard Schatz had an idea: photograph actors in a series of roles and dramatic situations to reveal the essence of their characters. Such is the premise behind Schatz’s new book, In Character: Actors Acting (Bulfinch), which captures some of Hollywood’s most emotive stars in the act of, well, making faces. Ranging from Martin Landau (playing a husband at his 50th-wedding-anniversary party) to Natasha Richardson (pretending to be a rock star on the way to her high-school reunion) to Rosie Perez (at right), the ensemble in Schatz’s photographs—some of which are showcased here on VF.com—illustrate the extraordinary power of pure and spontaneous imagination. Enjoy the show. —JESSICA FLINT (Vanity Fair)

Gender Roles at the Job

How the company views its employees. (HE VS SHE)

1. The family picture is on HIS desk.
Ah, a solid, responsible family man.

The family picture is on HER desk.
Umm, her family will come before her career.

2. HIS desk is cluttered.
He’s obviously a hard worker and a busy man.

HER desk is cluttered.
She’s obviously a disorganised scatterbrain

3. HE is talking with his co-workers.
He must be discussing the latest deal

SHE is talking with her co-workers.
She must be gossiping.

Funny Warning Labels

Posted: 15 Jul 2008 12:00 PM CDT

Some actual label instructions on consumer goods.

On a Sears hairdryer:
“Do not use while sleeping.”
(Gee, but that’s the only time I have to work on my hair.)

On a bag of Fritos:
“You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside.
(The shoplifter special?)

On a bar of Dial soap:
“Directions: Use like regular soap.”
(And that would be how…?)

On some Swann frozen dinners:
“Serving suggestion: Defrost.”
(But it’s just a suggestion.)

On Tesco’s Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom of box):
“Do not turn upside down.”
(A little late for that warning!)
